How can we help her?
Indira is in trouble. Her family lacks sufficient food, basic shelter, and clothing. Indira is 7 years old and works at a local granite quarry. There are 5 people in her family, and they all live in one room. Because they are so poor, they rely on Indira to work. After work, she goes to school and then comes home to do chores. She has a hard life and limited free time.
Indira is a child in Kathmandu, Nepal. She is in need of a nice, comforting home. Her entire home consists of only one room. Her family’s belongings are littered everywhere, including food and trash. It gets really cold because her walls are made of thin materials. A better home would help her because she would be able to stay warm and be comfortable.
Indira also needs access to more food. Everyone in the family, including Indira, has to work in order to afford food. Sometimes, Indira is able to bring a snack with her to work, but most days she does not even eat lunch when she is working. However, even with every member of the family working, they still do not earn enough to buy what they need. Enough food is necessary for good health and nutrition, and if they continue to go without, they are at risk of starvation.
Lastly, Indira needs more clothing. She needs thick, heavy clothing to keep her warm and protect her from splinters at the granite quarry. Currently, she wears the same thin, worn clothing every day. She is very cold when she sleeps at night because she has only a small blanket that she shares with her siblings. Warmer clothing would help her sleep more comfortably at night and also protect her during the day.
Are you willing to help Indira with these things or are you going to do nothing at all? It's all up to us. Indira is in serious trouble. Even working at the young age of 7, she still lacks food, clothing, and sufficient shelter for her family. Her life might be difficult to imagine, but it is not difficult to help. You can make a difference in her life today!
